100% HAND-CRAFTED, THOUGHTFULLY DESIGNED, ETHICALLY MADE.
We take skilled, but impoverished, weavers in Madagascar and help them turn their skill into an artform and an income.
This silk comes from wild Borocera silkworms, a species of silkworm only found in Madagascar. The Borocera silkworms must live in the wild, in Tapia forests in Madagascar’s Central Highlands.
Now because of revived silk sales, locals have a financial reason to protect these at-risk forests and to manage the wild silkworm population in a sustainable long-term way.
A weaver's quality of life instantly improves when they can afford healthcare, medicine, a healthy variety of foods, clothing, and secondary education (or higher) for their children.
This work allows them to do that, and gives the women the stability and dignity that comes with earning their own income.
The weavers get paid per piece, and each piece sold goes a long way in supporting that woman and her family.
The tradition of wild silk textiles has existed for centuries in Madagascar. Wild Borocera Silk (Landibe) has been the fabric of royalty, ancestors, and sacred burial ceremonies.
We aim to build on these strong traditions while developing the silk into a thriving modern micro economy that Malagasy people can feel proud of.
